During the week of Dec. 6-12, Hawaii Island police arrested 19 motorists for DUI.
Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.
Two were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: South Hilo, eight; Kona, six; South Kohala, three; and Puna, two.
So far this year, there have been 1,011 DUI arrests compared to 951 during the same period last year, an increase of 6.3%.
There have been 763 major accidents so far this year compared to 734 during the same period last year, an increase of 4%.
To date, there have been 25 official traffic fatalities compared to 15 fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 66.7%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
